Shoot, in my Taxi review, I thought it was a straight up documentary at first until I realized there were fictional and staged aspects a third of the way through.

That's so interesting how you had that realization.

Of course. There are some characters where I can relate to obviously, but there are some with different characteristics that I can get behind if they're written well.

Is that so? Hahaha! Jafar Panahi is definitely a filmmaker that doesn't believe in lies!

I remember being really shocked when I realized relatability wasn't the main thing that draws me to a story or character. If anything, I actually felt a little ashamed, like it was wrong of me not to connect to a story like a lot of people do! How silly of me.

And it's not like I'm not attracted to characters I relate to. Though I do think a vast majority of the characters I relate to, I relate to for a universally true characteristic they have, not because there's something specific about them that's like me.

...Though I admit, I did get exceptionally excited when I found out Ava from Ted Dekker and Tosca Lee's Books of Mortals trilogy and Deku from My Hero Academia both had curly hair, hee hee!Jeannette Jonichttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16223040243180418535noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7905416493038831261.post-18752510479600250322018-08-31T10:38:45.004-05:002018-08-31T10:38:45.004-05:00Not looking for relatability is actually surprisin...Not looking for relatability is actually surprising for me and I didn't expect that about you.

To be fair, I can't name many characters who are like me even with media I like for different reasons. Sincerity is something I do agree with especially with dealing with so many movies that are so machinated and fake. I remember a quote from Jafar Panahi when it came to when he got into filmmaking. One of his favorite all-time movies is the Bicycle Thief which is an Italian realist film and he said "This is a movie that didn't lie to me." Don't get me wrong, I know fiction is meant to be make-believe, but I can tell whenever something lies to me or insults me. Curtis M.http://cmbbwrites.wordpress.comnoreply@blogger.com
